NAACP Recording Categories Nominees
The 43rd NAACP Image Awards will honor the outstanding people of color in their specialized field in television, film, music and literature, and who paved their way for stardom from the previous year. The event will be aired live by NBC on February 17.
The new mommy Beyonce is nominated in four out of seven recording categories nominations: Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding Music Video, Outstanding Song and Outstanding Album.
Landing two nominations are soul singer Adele, and R&B hiphop singer Chris Brown.

John Lass – Room For One More (mixtape)
Like the legacies of the some of his genre’s heroes, John Lass came from very humble beginnings. He was raised by his mother, and his father who originally was know as a street pharmacist, and later when legit. In John’s community there weren’t many positive influences, or opportunities for an African American Male. Even with the constant reminders of his not so pleasant realities, in his earlier years John realized he wasn’t like the other kids. In Elementary School John Lass realized he had a magnetic personality. While still maintaining decent marks, he managing to always be a step away from the principal’s office.
Growing up in the 90’s John Lass was exposed to many different styles of Hip Hop and Rap music, considering the 90’s was time of emerging style, the “Make em Say UHHH” southern styles from Master P, and the very present storytelling styles of Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick. As John grew up and changed so did music, and after many name changes and stylist influences John Lass in his high school years emerged as an artist. He locally released his music to friends and classmates. The reception wasn’t as anticipated. He wasn’t being heard.
As he entered his college years John Lass continued to hone his craft. Now with a new understanding of music, and the plight of the past lyricist such as Tupac, whose music he enjoyed as a child, and whose poetry he enjoyed as adult. He began to create alternate routes to drive his success. Using poetry to influence and infuse his lyrics and becoming a triple threat by mastering production of his own beats. Now a lyricist, poet, and producer, John was “Shooting from two guns instead of one.” People were starting to take notice of the ambition of this aspiring talent. Including his parents, who began to lend their support.
Even though John has been hear nationally through social media and internet downloads, for his tracks and his own music, he plans to now perfect the art of performing. With a vast knowledge of industry and eagerness to grow as an artist John Lass wants to create a career in music.
When creating tracks John refers to creating music almost like a recipe for a good meal. “As far as vocals, I simply record pm protools. Throw some plug ins on that thang and that’s that.” but as any artist knows mastering tracks is how to ensure a quality single, which is how John finishes his projects.
With the influences of the past and a new age sound, John is defiantly sending a message to the industry… “Make Room for One More….”
